On Saturday March 1st Allison Duvenez qualified for the NAIA nationals in her very first 5,000-meter race at Linfield College. Allison was automatically qualified for nationals when she completed her 5,000-meter (5k) race with a time of 17:41.21, beating the qualifying time by nine seconds. Allison said that she is preparing for nationals by continuing to race and train in order to condition herself physically and mentally for the upcoming event. When asked how she felt about qualifying for nationals in her very first race, Allison said, “I am pretty excited and kind of relaxed knowing that I made it because now I can just prepare without the stress and anticipation of trying to [qualify].” She also said, “I was a little bit surprised just because I had no clue what to expect from the event but at the same time my coaches already believed that I could do it, so that helped me.” Allison said that God, the training from her coaches, and the encouragement from her teammates helped her to accomplish what she did. Nationals will be held in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 22-24.
