For weeks the team gathered together to learn plays, strengthen their defense, and become a team of Champions. This year’s NCU Powder Puff Football team was a force to be reckoned with and you could see that from the way they played together in the sun and rain the final couple of weeks leading up to game night.
On April 6th the ladies took the field. Travis Pacos led the charge with a small fleet of assistant coaches at his side. It was the leadership of Pacos and these awesome Beacon Men that helped prepare our ladies for victory. They were a coaching staff full of encouragement and knowledge.
From the beginning to the end the game was intense and close. The Deacons held the Beacons back with a strong defense and moved quickly, attempting to weave through the field attempting to score. In the end the Beacons reigned victorious, 15-0. “They did great, it was all them,” Coach Pacos shared when congratulated on the team’s win. “It was really fun – the coaches were great and it was fun to play with all the girls,” said Brooklyn Walker when she was asked about her experience.
It was an awesome night full of rain, tailgater hot dogs, and victory for the Beacon community. “My favorite part of Powder Puff is watching different groups of girls come together to play and share a fun experience together,” said Sarah Halstead, Director of Student Programs at NCU.
Another element to the night was collecting food donations for Food For Lane County. All donations collected throughout the evening will be distributed by FFLC to hungry families in Eugene and Springfield.
